1. Kamala GhaneaBassiri
Kamala GhaneaBassiri is a member of the Youth Leaders in Action Advisory Council for WorldOregon (previously the World Affairs Council of Oregon). She is the President of Model United Nations (MUN) at Lake Oswego High School (LOHS) and will be a committee chair at this year's Oregon MUN Conference. She writes and page designs for her high school’s newspaper, Lake Views, and is the Editor-in-Chief for her school’s literary arts magazine, Reflections, where she showcases some of the most creative voices at LOHS. She is an Intern at a non-profit organization called Portland Meet Portland (PMP). As an intern, she has been working closely with PMP’s Executive Director, Manuel Padilla, and Tony Salvador to create a podcast series about homelessness called Deconstructed in the hopes of humanizing homelessness, shedding light on its diverse causes and giving people experiencing homelessness a more prominent voice in our current society. PMP’s focus on creating rewarding relationships and providing resources for refugees and immigrants also echoes some of the work Kamala has done for her community as a tutor for Catholic Charities’ Kateri Park, an affordable housing development serving immigrant and refugee families in inner SE Portland. She is the creator, Editor-in-Chief, page designer and writer for the COLOR Zine.
2. Phyllis Chen
Phyllis Chen is an editor and writer for Lake Oswego High School’s yearbook, Laker Log, where she works to highlight individual stories and voices among the student population. She explores design and alternative forms of journalism through writing, designing, and editing for COLOR. Outside of school, she volunteers to tutor students at Kateri Park’s Homework Club, volunteers as a part of OMSI’s Teen Science Alliance, studied and interned through the 2017 OHSU PSI program, and occasionally works as an extra in filmings around Portland.
3. Juliana Sahni
Juliana Sahni is a tutor for Catholic Charities’ Kateri Park, as well as a member of the Kateri Park Planning Team at Lake Oswego High School (LOHS) where she recruits tutors and coordinates events between Lake Oswego and Kateri. She is also an Editor-in-Chief for Lake Oswego High School’s literary magazine, Reflections. Juliana is also a committee chair for the Oregon Model United Nations conference and will be co-running a committee during the conference this April. She is a member of the LOHS A Cappella and Chamber Choirs and takes voice lessons in her free time. She also enjoys painting, reading, writing, and eating soup. Juliana is an Editor-in-Chief and writer for the COLOR Zine.
